Standard Freebie Skills

These skills are for the average character.  If you have special needs (You're a Zulu Warrior, Alien Invader, Intelligent Clam, etc.) let me know and we'll devise some others.

  • Combat Driving
  • Concealment
  • Conversation
  • Deduction
  • Paramedics
  • Stealth
  • Streetwise
  • Native Language - Completely Fluent and Literate
  • Money: As a result of your employment by the city of Lazarus you are "Well Off".  If you want to be richer than that you'll have to pay a point or two on top of that.
  • Area Knowledge: Your choice of ONE of the following areas of Lazarus (Municipal District, Greebriar, Compasspoint, Downtown, Upper Reach, Newhope, Amherst, Footfall, Bowery, Flood District, Nighthawk, Sunrise, Serentiy, The Badlands.  One character in particular (you know who you are) may want to substitute "The Underneath").

You get an 11 or less roll for free with this specific area.  Areas adjacent suffer a -1 modifier for knowledges.  Areas, two spots away suffer a -3.  Three spots away suffer a -5, etc.  If your free familiarity is with the "Underneath", you suffer a -3 equally on all spots above ground.
 
Yes, this does give people with zones at the center of the city a slight advantage.  But then I expect most of you would be more familiar with the Municipal and Downtown districts anyway, so that's fine.

If you are using "Hero Designer" software here is how you record freebie skills:  Double-click a skill to add it, then select "Familiarity".  When you do a new option pops up called "Freebie".  Put a check there then the software won't charge you for the 8 or less skill.
 
The only one of these abilities that you can sell back is "Literacy", netting you a whole 1pt.  If you are in fact a zulu warrior, I will give you a comparable but different set of familiarities.
